Elgar/Walker Piano Concerto

The reaction to the recording of Robert Walker's realisation of Elgar's Piano Concerto has been amazing. Gramophone magazine named it Editor's Choice. Michael Kennedy in The Sunday Telegraph wrote: " Walker...has spent years on working out what mught have been, and has been succesful in producing an Elgarian sound.'  The Guardian said " Robert Walker's realisation for performance of the 'sketches drafts and recordings' for Elgar's Piano Concerto parallel Anthony Payne's successful elaboration for Elgar's Third Symphony. Walker's task has been less clear-cut, however, for the concerto that Elgar began in 1913 had to be pieced together from a much wider range of sources. The themes are authentic, but what seems to have been missing (except in the slow movement, which Elgar completed in a two piano version) is continuity, which Walker has imaginatively provided... Elgarians will want this disc.

And they can get it! On Epoch CDLX 7148

A Moment in June

Robert Walker has just returned from Thailand where he was working on the score for a new feature film by the up-and-coming Thai film director O Nathapon, 'A Moment in June'. Set in Thailand it tells the story of six characters, a play within a play, and the interplay between relationships. This is the second film on which Robert Walker and O Nathapon have collaborated together.
